The Surgeon General and Gun Rights

I hate to deliver troubling news at this joyous time of the year.

But, because most of us are ardent defenders of our gun rights and the Second Amendment, I feel obligated to let you know that the man President Barack Obama nominated to be Surgeon General of the United States – Vivek Murthy – is a threat to those rights.

And yesterday, the U.S. Senate, by a vote of 51 – 43, voted to confirm Murthy. (Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois was the only Republican who voted for confirmation)

So it’s a done deal. Murthy will now be sworn in as Surgeon General.

Why is that important? Why does it matter?

Because Murthy has a track record of opposition to the Second Amendment and the gun rights that are critical to our freedom as Americans.

Specifically, Murthy believes guns are a “healthcare issue.” Which means, no doubt, he will try to use his position as Surgeon General to restrict the gun rights of all of us.

In fact, Murthy is on record stating that he supports reinstating the failed, disastrous and grossly misnamed “assault weapons ban.”

OK. I know you’re busy at this time of year. So, I’ll leave it at that for now. But, I wanted you to be in the loop about this breaking bad news. After the New Year, let’s talk in more detail about what we all can do to protect and defend the Second Amendment over the remainder of Obama’s term.

But I warn you, the information about Murthy will just anger most anyone who believes – as I do – the Second Amendment is sacred.
