The NSA Document Dump

Rob here with Patriot Privacy and the Self-Reliance Institute.

Well, it was almost predictable.

As you know, whenever the government wants to release information it knows will make it look bad (or, more often than not, is forced to release the information), it usually does so on Friday afternoons or right before a holiday. By doing it late on a Friday or right before a holiday, the government hopes people won’t pay attention because they are busy with weekend or holiday activities.

So, as I said, it was almost predictable.

On Christmas Eve, the Obama administration released a huge number of documents from the National Security Administration (NSA) including “reports on intelligence collection that may have violated the law or U.S. policy over more than a decade, including unauthorized surveillance of Americans’ overseas communications.”

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised – but we should be outraged at the fact that there is now even more proof that the NSA is a rogue agency that has almost certainly broken the law by spying on American citizens.

Citizens just like you and me.

According to Bloomberg, in “U.S. Spy Agency Reports Improper Surveillance of Americans”:

The heavily-redacted reports include examples of data on Americans being e-mailed to unauthorized recipients, stored in unsecured computers and retained after it was supposed to be destroyed, according to the documents. They were posted on the NSA’s website at around 1:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.”

Again, while most of us aren’t surprised at this point – because of the Snowden revelations over the last year and a half – these are many of the documents that prove Snowden was correct.

OK. I know many folks are still celebrating Christmas and getting ready for the New Year, but I didn’t want this Christmas Eve document dump to go unnoticed – especially when Mainstream Media television barely mentioned a word about this.

So check out the Bloomberg report above and if I see deeper analysis of the documents I’ll send it your way.

As always, let me know what you think by emailing me at [email protected]

Does it anger you that the NSA has been spying on American citizens? Or, do you think it’s necessary to protect national security?

Should the NSA have released these on a regular workday instead of Christmas Eve?

Let me know what you think.
