Bullet Ban Threatens AR-15

After 20 years as a private detective in Washington DC, it takes a lot to get me riled up.

After all, if I’d let all the corruption I saw in our nation’s capital completely destroy my belief in the American people I’d be a complete cynic.

But I’m not.

Call me naïve, but I still believe that when Americans are unified and speak out we can make a difference.

And right now is one of those times when we need to speak out.

Because, as I write this, President Obama is trying to use “executive action” to ban the sale of 5.56 mm ammunition – the ammunition used by AR-15 style semi-automatics.

Let me share two important resources about the ban.

The first is, “Obama to ban bullets by executive action, threatens top-selling AR-15 rifle.” Please read the entire article, but here are a few important points from the piece.

President Obama is using executive actions to impose gun control on the nation, targeting the top-selling rifle in the country, the AR-15 style semi-automatic, with a ban on one of the most-used AR bullets by sportsmen and target shooters.”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this month revealed that it is proposing to put the ban on 5.56 mm ammo on a fast track, immediately driving up the price of the bullets and prompting retailers, including the huge outdoors company Cabela’s, to urge sportsmen to urge Congress to stop the president.”

’The Obama administration was unable to ban America’s most popular sporting rifle through the legislative process, so now it’s trying to ban commonly owned and used ammunition through regulation,’ said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA-ILA, the group’s policy and lobby shop.”

BATFE says that since the bullets can be used in semi-automatic handguns they pose a threat to police and must be banned from production, sale and use. But, as [Congressman] Goodlatte noted, the agency offered no proof. Federal agencies will still be allowed to buy the ammo.”

{{Get that? The Feds will be able to buy the ammo, but you won’t!!!}}

Even some police don’t buy the administration’s claim. ‘Criminals aren’t going to go out and buy a $1,000 AR pistol,’ Brent Ball, owner of 417 Guns in Springfield, Mo., and a 17-year veteran police officer told the Springfield News-Leader. ‘As a police officer I’m not worried about AR pistols because you can see them. It’s the small gun in a guy’s hand you can’t see that kills you.’

Many see the bullet ban as an assault on the AR-15 and Obama’s back-door bid to end production and sale.”

The other resource is the great sportsman retailer Cabela’s.

You can check out the page that they have dedicated to this critical threat. It is, “Attention Firearms Enthusiasts: Proposed Ban: 5.56 M855 Ball Ammunition.”

That page is doubly important as it contains information on how to contact the ATF and your congressional representatives to make comment while the public comment period is open.

The comment period closes on March 16 – so you must act now!

OK. It’s very rare that I use these weekly advisories to ask you to take action. And I hope it’s alright with you that I did this week. Because I am a staunch advocate of the Second Amendment and I believe this ammunition ban is unconstitutional and – more importantly – a real threat to our civil liberties.
