Read this for no cost credit monitoring for ANYONE

Last week we talked about the Target data breach and how it affected you.

The biggest lesson we drew from the incident is that everyone, even the very
young, should have credit monitoring.

Low and behold, I just got an email the other day from Target themselves talking
about the advantages of credit monitoring as easy prevention for identity theft.
And the best part is that Target is going to pay for free credit monitoring for those
affected by the data breach.  BUT THERE’S A CATCH.

From Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel:

“I am truly sorry this incident occurred and sincerely regret any inconvenience it may cause you. Because we value you as a guest and your trust is important to us, Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring to all Targetguests who shopped in U.S. stores, through Experian’s® ProtectMyID® product which includes identity theft insurance where available. To receive your unique activation code for this service, please go to creditmonitoring.target.com and register before April 23, 2014. Activation codes must be redeemed by April 30, 2014.”

WAIT!  I know a lot of you are thinking ‘I’ve never been to a Target in my life!’ or
‘I am pretty sure I was NOT affected by this data breach’, but there’s a loophole
in this free credit monitoring.

Target never actually asks you if you are a customer of theirs.  ANYONE can sign up for this service.

I had several friends, all of them never even been inside a Target, and they signed up for free credit monitoring without any issues.

Now I know some of you would rather not give your name to a mysterious company, but Experian Credit Bureau is actually running this service and, believe me, they already have your info.

So, if you have credit monitoring already you probably don’t need another service, but pass this along to
anyone you know that doesn’t.

Thanks for your time…
